Total Gym 1100 Review

For those of us who are on a budget, purchasing a home gym might be a slightly daunting task. Prices for such home equipment can reach well into the thousands of dollars, which would quite possibly make our bank managers rather angry.

Thankfully, there are a number of solutions for those who have a limited amount to spend on a home gym. The Total Gym 1100 is one of these options, and whilst it is not the most comprehensive piece of gym equipment - it could well be enough to get you going.

Efficient Design
The Total Gym 1100 has been designed to fit into almost any room in the house. Measuring in at 100" x 16", and weighing in at just 54lbs, the 1100 can easily be moved around or transported when necessary.

Because of the price tag of under $200, it would be reasonable to expect that the materials used to build the machine are not of the highest quality. Amazingly, this assumption would be downright incorrect. Featuring an ergonomic glide board and comfortable / padded handles, the Total Gym 1100 matches the build specs of other machines retailing for $400 and above.

Full Body Workout
With the Total Gym 1100, your entire body benefits from an array of different exercises. Precise wall cards and a detailed manual specify the correct way to perform each activity, whether it be for the lower body, upper body or abdominal muscles. Additionally, the Total Gym 1100 caters to those seeking a cardiovascular workout by converting in to an inclined rowing machine.

No Weight Bars
The Total Gym 1100 has been designed to use your own body weight as resistance, therefore eliminating the need to bulky weight plates and bars.

Unfortunately, unlike some other similarly designed systems, the 1100 does not accommodate add-on or expandable weights - meaning that your own body weight is the maximum resistance of the machine.

Things We Liked On The Total Gym 1100

The Total Gym 1100 is obviously targeted to those who are on a budget, yet still wanting the benefits of being able to perform multiple exercises in the comfort of their own homes. The manufacturer has got just the right balance between cost savings and features, taking away the unnecessary luxuries (except the comfort systems as discussed above) and opting to keep to the bare essentials.

Coupled with the price, and compared with other machines in the same league, the Total Gym 1100 offers excellent value for money.

Things We Didn't Like On The Total Gym 1100

It would have been great to have seen this machine allow for expandable weight over and above the body weight of the individual performing the exercises. Unfortunately, this limitation restricts the ability to build muscle mass, and means that lower body / core body workouts may suffer slightly. All in all though, we got more than our money's worth on this machine.
